When I first started at Hopeful Monsters, I was buzzing about the clients - Converse, Adobe, Pizza Hut, Australian Macadamias.

But Hopeful Monsters (fka Magnum & Co.) didn’t just want to do cool work for brands. They wanted to act like one, and get their name out there in unexpected ways that would make noise in adland.

Which I thought was a pretty cool brief to get from your bosses, right? So I started pitching idea after idea to help build their profile and bring their ‘do things differently’ mantra to life.

Hopeful Monster-O’s

We all know high-fibre cereal keeps things moving. It keeps your gut happy. It keeps things running smooth, so we can for a lack of a better word, shit better.
When I started at Hopeful Monsters, and like most creatives, all I wanted to do was shit hot work. But we all know that is often easier said than done.

So Hopeful Monster-O’s was born. A low-sugar, hi-fibre breakfast cereal designed to fuel big ideas, boost productivity, and keep creativity flowing. The world’s first breakfast made for agencies, clients, and anyone stuck in the bland. Not just another business card, but something unexpected to put on a desk or in front of a prospective client.

But why stop at cereal? What is actually holding brands back from doing bold, meaningful work? Fear of risk? Fear of missing engagement targets? Fear of making people feel something?

So to launch , we didn’t just pour a bowl. We hosted a panel with senior marketers from Adobe, Aldi, and Heaps Normal - celebrating creative thinking, fresh ideas, and what is actually holding the industry back from doing great work.

Thank You Slide

You can spend weeks, sometimes months, polishing a desk only for the ‘Thank You’ slide to sit there the longest and take all the glory.

Ironically, it’s also the most thankless slide in the deck. A wallpaper for Q&A while everyone zones out.

So what if we could use this piece of pixel real estate for something we should really be turning our attention to?

For the 2023 Voice Referendum, I got Hopeful Monsters to rally behind and put support behind the ‘Yes’ vote. We turned the ‘Thank You’ slide into a call to action - A simple QR code linking to key information on how to vote on the right side of history.

And to help other agencies do the same, we designed a Google Slides template they could drop straight into their own decks.
